Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph Complete Walkthrough: Final Update Roadmap
Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph launched on 9 June 2026 as Patch 9.7.0 — the final major update for the game. About 17,000 words of patch notes and roughly 1,400 changes. Active development ends here, but Destiny 2 stays live indefinitely. No shutdown, no FOMO, no countdown timer pulling cosmetics out of the game.
This guide is the complete walkthrough of the entire update, written for returning Guardians and active players who want a single source of truth. You get the day-one action list, how to earn Legendary Marks fast, the full breakdown of the four Tenet vendors, what changed in the sandbox, and where the new Sparrow Racing League and Distortions fit. For the boss-rush Pantheon 2.0 deep-dive, see the sibling guide linked below.
Key Takeaways
- Destiny 2 is NOT shutting down. Monument of Triumph is the final major content update, but the game stays live indefinitely in legacy mode.
- Legendary Marks are the new currency. Earn them from Triumphs across the 9-year history, spend them at the four Tenet vendors in the Tower Courtyard.
- Four Tenet vendors: Bravery (gating purchase), Devotion (SRL + Skimmers), Sacrifice (Superblack + first Holochip), Death (Chatterwhite + infinite engrams).
- Day-one login grants 50 Legendary Marks plus 2 Bright Engrams plus the Toast to the Monument emblem. Free for everyone who logs in.
- The Director is back. Portal deprecated to bottom-row Ops nodes. Kepler and the Lawless Frontier moved onto the destinations map.
- Tier 1 to 5 weapon upgrades are manual. Pick a god-roll first — you cannot add perks during upgrade. Anti-Champion mods are now intrinsic to weapon frames.
- Sparrow Racing League returns permanently. All four classic D1 maps plus a new map (community reports place it in the Realm of the Nine).
- Pantheon 2.0 is permanent. The Gauntlet unlocks 13 June at 10 AM PT, weekly rotators start 16 June — see the dedicated Pantheon 2.0 guide for full encounter walkthroughs.
- All cosmetics and Triumphs are permanent. The only hard deadline is the Bungie Rewards Immortal Title shirt, reported with a 30 September 2026 cutoff — verify on the Bungie Store.
Day-One Checklist for Returning Guardians
If you have been away from Destiny 2 for months or years, this is the fastest path back in. Log in, claim the free stuff, expand your storage, and get one Tenet vendor purchase done. That is your first session. Everything else can wait.
Login Rewards and the Toast to the Monument Emblem
First login on patch 9.7.0 grants the Toast to the Monument emblem plus 2 Bright Engrams plus 50 Legendary Marks, free, no strings. The emblem is account-bound and shows you logged in during the final update window. Bright Engrams and Marks go straight to your inventory.
| Reward | Trigger | Tier |
| Toast to the Monument emblem | First login on patch 9.7.0 | All players |
| 2 Bright Engrams | First login on patch 9.7.0 | All players |
| 50 Legendary Marks | First login on patch 9.7.0 | All players |
| Old Lights emblem | Owned every D2 expansion year | Veteran |
| Elemental Qi emote | Owned every D2 expansion year | Veteran |
| Toast emblem + 2 Bright Engrams + 50 Marks (combined) | Lapsed account returning | Returner |
| Monument of Triumph shirt + soundtrack + SRL jacket | Bungie Store purchase | Bungie Rewards |
If you have owned every Destiny 2 expansion through the years, you also unlock the Veteran tier — Old Lights emblem and Elemental Qi emote. The Returner tier triggers for accounts coming back after a stretch away. Both are checked server-side at login; no claim button needed.
Veteran vs Returner Tier
Veteran tier goes to accounts active during every expansion year. Returner tier goes to lapsed accounts logging back in. The exact inactivity window for the Returner tag is not stated in the patch notes — if you have been gone for several months and missed at least one expansion, expect to qualify. Check the in-game inventory for the Toast emblem to confirm.
Vault and Loadout Expansions
Your vault expanded from 1,000 to 1,300 slots. Loadouts jumped from 12 to 20. Both apply automatically. Spend the first 10 minutes of your session reorganizing — move old crafted weapons into the new slots, save build loadouts you used to juggle. The extra capacity is the single biggest quality-of-life improvement for returners who hoarded.
If your weekend looks more like work than gaming and you want the whole roadmap handled on the side, our Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph boost sets you up for the cosmetics, the title path and the Pantheon clears without burning your free time.
What Monument of Triumph Is (and What It Isn't)
Monument of Triumph is the final major content update for Destiny 2, not a shutdown. The headline difference: active development ends, but the servers stay up indefinitely and all cosmetics and Triumphs remain earnable. There is no countdown timer pulling content out of the game.
Final Major Update, Not a Shutdown
Destiny 2 is staying online. What ends is active expansion development — Bungie is shifting focus, the final-update credits roll, and no future paid expansions are planned. The game enters indefinite legacy mode after Monument of Triumph: existing content stays accessible, weekly resets continue, Trials and Iron Banner keep their schedule.
If you have heard "Destiny 2 is dead" — the messaging is misleading. The live service stops growing, but the game does not turn off. Pantheon 2.0 is permanent. The Tenet vendors are permanent. All Monument cosmetics are permanent. You can play through the back catalog at your own pace.
Important: Monument of Triumph is the FINAL major update, not a game shutdown. Servers stay live, all cosmetics and Triumphs remain earnable, and Pantheon 2.0 is permanent. There is no FOMO deadline on any in-game reward.
Legendary Marks, Triumphs and Tenet Vendors at a Glance
The reward loop is Triumphs → Legendary Marks → Tenet vendors. Complete Triumphs across any era of Destiny 2 content (raids, dungeons, PvP, destinations, Gambit, retired events). Each Triumph awards Legendary Marks. Spend the Marks at one of four new vendors in the Tower Courtyard for cosmetics, Exotic weapons, shaders, Skimmers, ornaments and infinite weapon engrams.
| Quick Stat | Value |
| Launch | 9 June 2026 (Patch 9.7.0) |
| Status | Final major update — server stays live indefinitely |
| New currency | Legendary Marks |
| New vendors | 4 Tenets in Tower Courtyard |
| Vault size | 1,300 slots (up from 1,000) |
| Loadouts | 20 (up from 12) |
| Boss-rush activity | Pantheon 2.0 (permanent) |
| Returning activity | Sparrow Racing League |
The Tenet vendor purchases are permanent. You can take weeks or months to grind Marks; nothing rotates out. The only artificial pressure is the Pantheon 2.0 Gauntlet unlock on 13 June, which is required for the Godsbane seal (more on that below).
What This Guide Covers vs the Pantheon 2.0 Deep-Dive
This guide is the roadmap for the whole update. Pantheon 2.0 gets a compressed overview in section 9 with cross-links to the dedicated guide. If you want the full Calus, Argos and Gahlran walkthroughs, Gauntlet strategy and Godsbane Title path, head to the dedicated Pantheon 2.0 guide. Here, the focus is currency, vendors, sandbox shifts and the returner path.
Legendary Marks and How to Earn Them Fast
Legendary Marks gate every Tenet vendor purchase, so this is the section that decides how fast you unlock the cosmetics you actually want. The good news: the Triumph pool spans all nine years of Destiny 2, so you almost certainly have done some of them already.
Triumph Categories Across the 9-Year History
Triumphs that grant Legendary Marks cover the entire game's history. Raids and dungeons from every era. PvP modes including Crucible, Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner. Destination activities. Gambit. Even retired seasonal events (whose weapons have been absorbed into the Monument vendor engrams). If you have been playing since launch, expect a big initial Marks dump from retroactive completions.
- Raids and dungeons — every raid and dungeon in the game has at least one Triumph contributing to the Monument pool.
- PvP modes — Crucible, Trials, Iron Banner all have Triumph categories.
- Destinations — every patrol zone has an exploration Triumph block.
- Retired events — Festival of the Lost, Dawning, Guardian Games, Solstice — past completions still count.
- Pantheon 2.0 activities — fresh Triumphs added specifically for the new boss-rush content.
Highest Marks-Per-Hour Activities
For active grinding, Pantheon 2.0 Adventure runs are the fastest Triumph dump per hour. The Adventure tier lifts the power cap and gives infinite revives, so even mechanically weak teams clear bosses for Triumph credit. Each boss kill ticks multiple Monument Triumphs.
Outside Pantheon, Distortions on destinations are the next-best Marks-per-hour source for solo players. They rotate hourly, drop +1 tier loot, and the destination Triumphs they tick are fast solo objectives. Trials of Osiris weekend pushes are highest variance — Flawless cards grant chunky Triumph awards, but you need the build for it.
If you are short on time and want the full Marks chase handled, our Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph boost grinds the Triumph spread for you while you focus on the cosmetics you actually want.
The Four Tenet Vendors and Their Reward Pools
The four Tenet vendors live in the Tower Courtyard, behind the new Monument structure. Each has a distinct reward pool. Community launch reporting suggests Tenet of Bravery is the gating purchase that opens access to the other three. Verify this on your first session — buy something cheap from Bravery before trying Devotion.
| Vendor | Headline Rewards | Triumph-Locked Items | Gating Notes |
| Tenet of Bravery | Fafnir Exotic Linear Fusion, Heir Apparent Exotic MG, new Skimmer, universal helmet ornament, all engrams | — | Reported as the gating purchase — buy here first per community launch reports |
| Tenet of Devotion | Gryphon Skimmer, All Star Vector Skimmer, full SRL cosmetics, general emotes | — | Cosmetics-only; ideal second stop for fashion players |
| Tenet of Sacrifice | Superblack shader, first earnable Holochip, universal helmet ornament, finishers, ghosts, ships | Superblack (shader), Einherjar Coronet helmet ornament | Some items require additional Triumph completion past the Marks cost |
| Tenet of Death | Chatterwhite shader, Exotic armor ornaments, raid + dungeon cosmetics, transmat effects, endlessly purchasable weapon engrams | Chatterwhite (shader), Immortal Legend Armor Ornament Set | Endgame cosmetics + infinite weapon engram source |
If you only buy from one vendor, make it Bravery for the new Exotic weapons (Fafnir, Heir Apparent) and the gating effect. If your goal is fashion and cosmetics, Devotion and Sacrifice are the priority. Death is where endgame players camp for infinite engram focusing and Exotic armor ornaments.
Pro Tip: Buy the Tenet of Bravery purchase first. According to community launch reporting, Bravery unlocks access to the other three Tenet vendors. Confirm in-game if your build is still gated after the first cheap purchase from Bravery.
Important: The Bungie Rewards Immortal Title shirt has a reported 30 September 2026 cutoff. If you want it, finish the Pantheon 2.0 Godsbane Title before that date — verify the deadline directly on the Bungie Store before relying on it.
Tenet of Bravery
Bravery is the headline vendor. Fafnir (Linear Fusion, "Quantum Nova") and Heir Apparent (Machine Gun) are the new Exotic pulls. Bravery also stocks a new Skimmer, a universal helmet ornament that fits any helmet in the game, all weapon engrams from current and retired seasons, and general emblems. Buy the cheapest item here on your first visit to confirm the gating mechanic before sinking Marks at Devotion.
Tenet of Devotion
Devotion is for vehicle and SRL cosmetics. Gryphon Skimmer and the All Star Vector Skimmer are the standout pulls — Gryphon is a returning fan favourite, the All Star Vector is new. Devotion also carries the full SRL cosmetic line (shaders, sparrow horns, emblems) and general emotes. Cheaper per-item than the endgame vendors; ideal second visit.
Tenet of Sacrifice
Sacrifice owns the legendary cosmetics. Superblack shader returns here after years of FOMO around the original version. The first earnable Holochip is also at Sacrifice — a decorative attachment that previously had no earnable source. Universal helmet ornament here too, plus finishers, ghosts and ships. Note: Superblack and the Einherjar Coronet helmet ornament require Triumph completion on top of the Marks cost.
Tenet of Death
Death is the endgame fashion vendor and the infinite engram source. Chatterwhite shader returns here behind a Triumph lock. Death also stocks Exotic armor ornaments (including the Turncoat faction set tied to the Triumphant Rewards Pass), raid and dungeon cosmetics, general shaders, and transmat effects. The endlessly purchasable weapon engrams here are the main long-term grinding loop — repeatable engram pulls for god-roll farming after the main cosmetics chase is done.
Director Restored, Portal Reorganized
The Director is back as the home screen. If you remember Destiny 2 from before the Portal redesign, the interface will feel familiar. Destinations live on the map, current activities cluster at the bottom row, and Kepler plus the Lawless Frontier finally moved off the Portal nodes onto the destinations screen proper.
What Moved Where
The six Ops categories now live at the bottom row of the Director: Solo Ops, Fireteam Ops, Arena Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops and Gambit Ops. Each Ops category has its own loot pool. Kepler and the Lawless Frontier — previously buried inside the Portal — are now destination nodes on the main map, so you can launch into them as quickly as you launch into the EDZ.
The Portal interface is deprecated but not removed. You can still access it via legacy menu paths if you have muscle memory. New players are expected to use the Director by default.
Difficulty Tier Mapping
The difficulty system is now 1:1 with rank and loot tier. Normal = C rank = Tier 1 loot. Advanced = B rank = Tier 2 loot. Expert = A rank = Tier 3. Master = A+ rank = Tier 4. Grandmaster = S rank = Tier 5. Ultimate = S+ rank = Tier 5 plus bragging rights but no additional reward tier.
For Monument Triumph farming, Advanced or Expert is the sweet spot: enough difficulty to unlock tier 2-3 weapons (which is what you need for the Tier 5 upgrade material grind), without the wipe risk of Grandmaster on a returning character.
Tiered Weapons and Anti-Champion 2.0
Two changes here actually matter for your loadout. Weapons are now manually upgradeable from Tier 1 to Tier 5 with materials, and anti-Champion mods left the Artifact for good — every weapon frame now has a permanent Champion stun baked in.
T1 to T5 Manual Upgrade Path and Costs
Every tiered weapon in your vault is eligible for upgrade. Manual tier upgrading happens at the weapon inspection screen via the mod slot. Each tier step costs Glimmer plus weapon-tier materials.
| Tier Step | Glimmer | Ascendant Alloy | Enhancement Prisms | Notes |
| T1 to T2 | 2,500 | 1 | 3 | Example only — costs scale per tier and must be verified in-game |
Pro Tip: The Tier 5 upgrade is manual and per-weapon. You CANNOT add additional perks during upgrade — pick a god-roll FIRST and then upgrade it. Crafted weapons have their own Enclave-based upgrade path (T2 enhanced traits, T3 enhanced mods, T4 enhanced components, T5 enhanced origin trait).
Adept weapons retain a small stat edge and unique shader over non-Adept tier-5 equivalents, so chasing Adept rolls from Pantheon 2.0 Standard difficulty is still worth it even after the manual upgrade system goes live.
Frame-Based Champion Stun Table
Anti-Champion mods are completely off the Artifact. Every legendary frame in the game has a permanent Champion stun built in. Slot a Barrier-stunning frame to handle Barriers; slot an Overload-stunning frame for Overloads. No mods needed.
| Frame Type | Champion Stun | Notes |
| Aggressive, High-Impact, Heavy Burst, Wave, Micro-Missile, Rocket-Assisted | Unstoppable | Stun triggers immediately, no proc wait |
| Precision, Adaptive, Legacy, Caster, Support | Barrier | Replaces Radiant/Volatile barrier stuns |
| Lightweight, Rapid-Fire, Support AR, Vortex, Overheat | Overload | Stun triggers immediately, no proc wait |
| Stasis Shatter effects | Unstoppable | Confirmed via community launch coverage |
Radiant and Volatile Shift (No Longer Barrier Stuns)
Warning: Radiant and Volatile Rounds no longer stun Barrier Champions in Monument of Triumph. They now grant +10% damage vs Champions instead. If you were relying on Radiant Solar Warlock or Volatile Void Hunter to handle Barriers, update your loadout to bring a Barrier-frame weapon explicitly.
The shift is intentional — Bungie wants players to slot the right frame rather than blanket-stun via a buff. In practice this means most builds now run a Precision Scout Rifle or Adaptive Hand Cannon for Barrier coverage, an Unstoppable-frame Heavy MG (Bane of Sorrow is excellent here), and the third slot flexes to the Champion type the activity throws.
Distortions and Destination Refreshes
Distortions are a new hourly destination modifier that empower enemies, change the environment visually, and bump public event loot up one tier. For solo Marks farming and casual Triumph completion, Distortions are the easiest source.
Hourly Distortion Modifier
One destination at a time enters Distortion state and the rotation cycles every hour. The active destination is flagged on the Director with a distinct indicator. Enemies in the Distortion zone are tougher with a visual aura, the soundtrack shifts, and lost sectors plus public events drop better loot.
Public Events and +1 Tier Loot
Public events during a Distortion drop +1 tier of loot. Base Tier 3 public events become Tier 4. Heroic Tier 4 public events become Tier 5. For tier-5 weapon farming on a free schedule, Distortion timing matters more than activity choice.
Destination Reward Refreshes
Several destinations got fresh weapon sets to chase. Cosmodrome gained the Seventh Seraph reprised weapons from the original Worthy era. Nessus picked up the Echoing Reprisals set tied to the destination Triumphs. Both are tier-1 baseline drops scaling up with Distortion timing and difficulty tier.
Sparrow Racing League, Pantheon 2.0 and Build Sandbox Shifts
Three big returning systems live in this section: Sparrow Racing League back permanently, Pantheon 2.0 in brief (link to the dedicated guide), and the new armor archetype + ability cooldown changes from the sandbox patch.
SRL Maps, Weapons and Armor Set
Sparrow Racing League returns as a permanent activity for the first time since the original D1 run. Five maps total: all four classic D1 SRL maps plus Quantum Circuits (community reports place the new map in the Realm of the Nine — verify in-game). Race on Sparrow or Skimmer; each vehicle has its own quirks (Skimmers lose rail guards and manual jumps; Sparrows lose stabilizer flips).
New SRL mechanics include a rocket boost (hit gas right before race start), trick boost (perform tricks during the race for speed), and a photo-finish system for tie resolution. Dedicated SRL armor set has 2-piece "Revving Up" and 4-piece "Dielectric Drift" (slide-jolt mechanic for racing utility). New origin trait Featherweight on SRL weapons.
Pantheon 2.0 at a Glance
Pantheon 2.0 is the new boss-rush activity with three modes (Adventure / Standard / Custom) and three confirmed bosses at launch (Calus, Argos, Gahlran). Two activities went live on 9 June (Calus Resplendent and Morgeth Surpassing); the full Gauntlet boss-rush unlocks 13 June at 10 AM PT; weekly rotators start 16 June.
- 9 June — Calus Resplendent + Morgeth Surpassing (2 activities)
- 13 June 10 AM PT — The Gauntlet unlocks (full boss rush)
- 16 June onward — Weekly boss rotators on Tuesday reset
For full Calus, Argos and Gahlran walkthroughs, the Gauntlet strategy, the Godsbane Title path and the new Alone as a God + Bane of Sorrow weapons, head to our dedicated guide on Pantheon 2.0 . If you want a clean clear without LFG hassle, our Destiny 2 Pantheon 2.0 carry handles the Gauntlet and the title path.
Six Armor Archetypes and Cooldown Changes
Patch 9.7.0 tightens the ability sandbox. Passive cooldown stats are down roughly 20%. Active cooldown cap is 125% (down from 190%). Super energy from boss damage is down 60%. Multi-charge abilities start PvP matches with 1 charge.
Armor has six new archetypes: Siegebreaker (Health + Grenade), Skirmisher (Melee + Weapon), Demolitionist (Grenade + Class), Colossus (Super + Health), Reaver (Class + Melee), and Powerhouse (Weapon + Super). Powerhouse is the consensus best archetype for endgame PvE DPS right now thanks to the Weapon + Super stat pairing.
The new "Truth to Power" 4-piece bonus from the Shattered Throne dungeon armor is the early-consensus best PvE 4-piece. All Exotic armor since Edge of Fate retroactively rolls Tier 5 with full tuning mod access, so you do not need to refarm your old Exotics — they auto-upgrade.
Returning Activities Schedule (At a Glance)
One scannable view of every returning and new activity that ships with Monument of Triumph, plus what's new in each. Use this to plan your week.
| Activity | Status | What's New | Reward Hook |
| Pantheon 2.0 (Calus Resplendent + Morgeth Surpassing) | Live 9 June | 2 launch activities, Adventure / Standard / Custom tiers | Adept weapons, Alone as a God, Bane of Sorrow |
| The Gauntlet (Pantheon 2.0 boss-rush) | Unlocks 13 June 10 AM PT | Full boss lineup back-to-back, required for Immortal seal | Godslayer Title (Platinum push) |
| Pantheon 2.0 Weekly Rotators | Start 16 June (Tuesday reset) | 2 bosses featured per week | Adept farming loop |
| Sparrow Racing League | Live 9 June (permanent) | 4 D1 maps + Quantum Circuits (new map), Featherweight origin trait | SRL armor set, sparrow horns, racing cosmetics |
| Trials of Osiris | Weekly (except Iron Banner weeks) | Trials runs on a 3-of-4 weekend schedule | Adept Trials weapons + Immortal Triumphs |
| Iron Banner | Every 4 weeks | Ciphers in event-card form, returning weapons | Iron Banner weapon set |
| Other returning activities | Live 9 June | Heavy Metal, Cabal Behemoth, Nightfall Station refreshes | Destination-tier weapon refreshes |
For most players the right weekly loop is two SRL races for the armor pieces, one Distortion run during peak destination loot, one Standard Pantheon clear for the Adept, and the rest of the time on Triumph cleanup.
Final Thoughts and Carry Recommendations
Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph is the right way for the live service to bow out. A clean roadmap, a real title, returning cosmetics that were locked behind FOMO for years, and a boss-rush that fights every era's biggest names. The servers stay up. The content stays earnable. Nothing forces you to grind.
The decision logic for most players: if you have been away for 12+ months, log in for the free Toast emblem, Veteran tier if you qualify, then buy something cheap from Tenet of Bravery to confirm the gating mechanic. Spend a couple of weeks running Pantheon 2.0 Adventure and Distortions to dump Triumphs. Push Pantheon 2.0 Standard for the Godslayer Title (covered in the dedicated guide). Chase Chatterwhite, Superblack and the Holochip last because they are Triumph-locked.
If your weekend looks more like work than gaming, our Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph boost grinds the Triumph spread, the Immortal seal and the cosmetic chase while you focus elsewhere. For the Pantheon 2.0 Gauntlet specifically, see the dedicated Destiny 2 Pantheon 2.0 carry . Full broader support lives on our Destiny 2 boosting services page.
